Bermuda National Sports Centre - Hamilton, Bermuda
The Board of Directors of the Bermuda National Sports Centre retained Johnston Sport Architecture as Project Architects for the National Sport Centre Project in Hamilton, Bermuda. Johnston Sport Architecture in turn hired 1st Team Consulting Ltd. The initial works have included drainage for the existing track and constructing a cricket pitch on an undulating site. A major earthworks project was required to level the site for the cricket pitch and excavate for the building. Services including a 350,000 gallon irrigation storage tank were required to facilitate the development of the entire project.
- Use of aluminized corrugated pipes for irrigation storage rather than conventional masonry construction achieved cost savings in the amount of $500,000.00 U.S.
- Excavation and compaction of the native limestone at depths of over 25 feet.
- Construction and procurement procedures for the island with a popoulation of 60,000.
