BC Hydro Wetland - Langford
BC Hydro was approached by the District of Langford, to build a wetland on land adjacent to their Langford Substation. The Reconstruction of nearby Jacklin Road would have concentrated runoff toward Colwood Creek transporting pollutants and causing erosion. BC Hydro consented, and asked that a landscaped berm be constructed with the excavation to provide a visual barrier to their substation. As well, an interpretive sign and park bench was proposed for public enjoyment and awareness.
1st Team Consulting Ltd. was hired by Cloghesy and Doak to help plan, design, layout, and inspect a wetland system. 1st Team met with the District and BC Hydro in order to produce the best system. A report on the function, design, construction and maintenance of the system was produced in conjunction with landscape architects.
- A sediment pond to provide pre-cleaning of the wetland and make for easier maintenance.
- A maintenance schedule for the operation of the wetland.
- A dry rock creek to connect the sediment pond to the wetland and an island for nesting birds.
- An interpretive board to explain the functions of the wetland and to highlight BC Hydro’s contribution of the property.
